Fort Lauderdale is one of the boating capitals of the world, and the calendar shows it. If you are planning a boat rental or yacht charter, these recurring events are worth building a trip around.
Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show
Held every fall, this is one of the largest in water boat shows anywhere, spread across multiple marinas along the Intracoastal. The water gets busy that week, which is half the fun. A rented boat or a captained charter is a great way to see the show from the water side.
Winterfest Boat Parade
Every December, decorated and illuminated boats parade along the Intracoastal through Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach. Watching from the water beats fighting for a spot on shore. Book early, because parade night charters go fast.
Sandbar weekends and holiday raft ups
Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day turn the Lake Boca sandbar and the spots near the Hillsboro Inlet into floating block parties. If you want a pontoon for a holiday weekend, reserve well ahead.
Fishing tournaments
South Florida hosts saltwater fishing tournaments throughout the year out of Pompano Beach and Fort Lauderdale inlets. Even as a spectator, tournament mornings at the inlet are worth the ride.
